Adidas, Quantum and SDS

QuantumWhen world-class athletes take to the field clothed in adidas, they look to the sports apparel expert for all the advantages the latest design innovations can bring them. Similarly, when it came to safeguarding its data, adidas Australia wanted an industry-leading solution for its backup challenges that would offer the latest advances in data protection technology in a cost-efficient manner.

The company turned to Quantum, selecting a DXi3500 disk backup and deduplication appliance to streamline its backup process, increase reliability and speed, and reduce costs.addidas-logo

"The DXi3500 has exceeded all my expectations," said Ricky Telac, IT Infrastructure Services Manager for adidas Australia. "It's so much faster than our previous system, and we're seeing a 30:1 deduplication ratio. I'm pretty excited about how it's performing!"

NEED FOR IMPROVED BACKUP SPEED AND RELIABILITY
Based in Germany, the adidas Group's 150-plus subsidiaries around the world generated more than $13 billion in revenue in 2007. The Australia subsidiary may be just a part of the company's global empire, but its backup, recovery and archive challenges are as pressing as those of any other organization faced with protecting growing amounts of data within today's constrained technology budgets.
Telac, who oversees the Asia Pacific, Australia and New Zealand technology infrastructure function for adidas, is responsible for everything from servers and routers to gateways, firewalls, and even the desktop PCs used by about 300 employees in the Melbourne headquarters and its 18 branch offices throughout Australia. Among his concerns are protecting the information in a number of large SQL and Exchange databases that are critical for the ongoing work of the adidas Australia operation.
